Ok,

So I've been thinking about the next big step to take these sites and here's what I've come up with, but before anything happens I would really like feedback from you all on the idea.

I have been working on an upload site similar to Megaupload and I have been debating weather or not to move all files from these websites on to that while leaving the current sites just a links site.

What are the benefits?
-We could have a new site for games on the Wii, 360, DS, PSP etc
-More people will use the sites
- There will be no risk of file deletion as I will be the administrator of this new upload site
- Current subscribers will be transferred onto the file upload site with NO EXTRA CHARGES and fees will remain the same,
- We will have more powerful file servers

The bad bits...
- For new users, the fees will be higher as they will have to register to the upload site.
- We will not allow any megaupload or RS links (because they can get deleted plus I wont make a penny)
- The sites COULD go downhill.

I've also been thinking of merging every site into one, like theisozone.com etc which will give the site a huge traffic boost.

Again, I will only act on this depending on the feedback from the people that count, and that is you

Looking forward to your comments!

I have a few questions JaMbo. First is what do you mean by the sites could do "downhill"? Also, how would moving all the files to the upload site make it easier for new sites for Wii, 360, DS, PSP? And might you begin to tread in open waters by hosting images for those systems (if that was the plan)? Personally I think you should stick to older gaming systems. This site has been a great asset to me in this regard. I was thinking that a site for PS1 stuff would be cool since there are good emulators out there and the PS1 is easily modded to play backups.

Ultimately I think you should go with what would be easiest for you but still provide solid, reliable downloads for us. Would you own the actual file servers the files would reside on or are you leasing them from some 3rd party and just uploading the files? If so then I would not want to because then the files are at their mercy.

Hope this was some constructive feedback for you.

Well basically the whole move is to protect myself - I don't want people to think this site is selling copyright material.

I think by creating my own megaupload site It could combat this (I will also state that we are no way affiliated with the upload site but the truth would be it's actually mine)

And that would open up doors to having newer games etc on here but I think you're right it will be pushing my luck a bit and to be honest I dont wanna go down the warez road.

I'm actually making psisozone right now, it will be done in a few days it will just take a hell of a long time to get a ton of files on there.

Perhaps linking all sites to one, while just focusing on the retro games is the way to go - I dont like the fact all of the sites are seperated

JaMBo, I have to agree with you regarding the newer stuff. Retro is definitely the way to go. I would hate to see this site go the way of so many others by being shut down.

It would be easier for you if they were all linked to one instead of having different sites for each group but the sites now are pretty good. I think it may be a lot more work to combine them all into one. I'm not sure.

If there's anything I can do to help just let me know.

On a side note, I think you've made it pretty clear that the sub fees are for more downloading/bandwidth privileges. I don't think anyone can say you are selling copyrighted material.

Honorbrachios, you're not going to find those games here as they are still in production and illegal to distribute. And you cannot own a copy unless you own the game. Sorry.

Though it would be kind of a slight dis convenience, you would have the opportunity to sell add space, and the self protection just in case the ax falls, is the smartest thing you could do.

Although you wouldn't want to own both sites....
If trouble ever did arise...
Legally they might still hold you accountable if they prove you own both sites.

If you are counting on the upload/ download site to be your new money maker, you should own it. All the sites with the links to DL from, ownership should be transfered to a trusted friend. If you make ANY kind of revenue from the link sites, you should transfer ownership of them at the sale price of Profit sharing. If the sale price is a direct 60/40 split of the profits and your friend is the 60% and you the 40%. Legally he/she is the owner and you will still have the opp to make a little extra. This should ultimately make it harder for them to shut it down.

If you really think the opportunity is greater... then go for it!!!
BUT...
If you think this could increase the risk of encountering legal troubles.... I would advise against it. Not only have some innocent people spent so much they will work their entire life and never be able to repay the legal fees of just trying to prove their innocence, but in our society today YOU ARE GUILTY Unless you can prove innocence, beyond a shadow of ANY doubt.
And that can be very expensive to do.

You should stick with dead consoles that no longer produce scene releases.

Jambo, have you had any legal trouble regarding the site so far? Just as it's been said above, its obvious that the fees are solely for bandwith - the files are available for all regardless.

Regards merging the sites - personally, I like it the way it is, but obviously whatever is best for you is ultimately what is best for us - if you run out of cash, or have a run-in with the fuzz then we all lose out!

If merging the sites is what needs doing - then it needs doing, as long as it doesn't bring people uploading stuff that might bring the legal people in!

If you do game saves, I could see tons of rpg maker game saves coming along that are sweet. Just a thought
